Role Overview
We are looking for an Electrical Quantity Surveyor in Glasgow with a background in high voltage substations, switchgear, or cable installation projects. This role will focus on the commercial management of HV electrical projects — primarily substations, cable systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. You’ll play a key role in cost control, contract administration, valuations, and overall project financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage budgets, BOQs, profit plans, and commercial reports Lead and contribute to interim commercial meetings with clients and internal stakeholders Oversee subcontractor accounts, including valuations and final accounts Ensure payment applications, certificates, and retentions align with contract terms Issue accurate interim and final accounts in accordance with contract obligations Track and manage project changes, site variations, dayworks, and claims Identify commercial risks and escalate promptly to senior management Work closely with Planning Engineers to ensure cost/programme alignment Negotiate with clients or their representatives as needed Maintain accurate records to support commercial performance and decision-making Work independently and efficiently, delivering timely and accurate information
Requirements
Degree in Quantity Surveying / Construction Economics or similar Proven experience on HV projects, particularly in substations or similar electrical works Strong understanding of contract conditions and commercial processes Advanced Excel skills and general proficiency in reporting tools Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Detail-oriented with strong organisational and administrative capabilities
Desirable Background
Technical experience as an Electrician, Electrical Engineer, or Instrumentation Technician Experience with cost control for dayworks, remeasured works, and on-site variations Familiarity with the preparation of claims, escalations, and interim valuations Understanding of scheduling and its commercial implications
