Overview
A leading data centre operator is seeking an experienced
Electrical Engineer
to join its high-performing team in
London This is a critical role supporting the delivery of
robust, compliant and highly efficient electrical operations
within a mission-critical environment.
You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and enhancement of complex electrical power systems that support 24/7 digital infrastructure. This position is ideal for an engineer with strong technical expertise in
HV/LV systems, UPS technologies, standby power and electrical resilience .
Key Responsibilities
Operate, maintain and optimise
HV/LV electrical distribution systems , including transformers, switchgear, protection systems and distribution panels.
Ensure safe, reliable operation of
UPS systems , battery strings (VRLA/Lithium), static transfer switches and power quality monitoring equipment.
Support the testing and operation of
diesel generators , fuel systems and automatic transfer controls.
Carry out electrical maintenance, inspections, testing and compliance tasks in line with regulations and internal standards.
Diagnose electrical faults, conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions promptly and safely.
Monitor electrical loads, redundancy, capacity and efficiency to ensure optimal performance.
Contribute technical expertise to electrical upgrade works, retrofit projects, switchgear replacements and capacity expansion plans.
Work closely with contractors and suppliers, ensuring safe systems of work (permit-to-work, isolations, RAMS).
Maintain accurate electrical documentation including single-line diagrams, maintenance records and compliance reports.
Skills & Experience Required
Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant electrical discipline.
Proven experience working within a
data centre
or other
mission-critical environment
(e.g., hospitals, pharmaceuticals, financial services, industrial).
Strong knowledge of:
HV/LV power distribution
UPS and battery technologies
Diesel generator systems
Protection systems and electrical discrimination
Power monitoring, EPMS and BMS
Good understanding of
BS 7671 , IEC standards, ISO frameworks and electrical safety regulations.
Excellent electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work under pressure in high-availability environments.
Effective communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Strong focus on safety, compliance, quality and operational excellence.
