Job Title: Detail Designer
Location: Scotstoun, Glasgow. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Up to £38,900 depending on qualifications and experience
What you’ll be doing:
Producing and developing designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out detail design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained
Carrying out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a team
Supporting the development of best practice to increase the capability, performance of tools and processes
Performing self-verification of own tasks to ensure quality and arrange checking of work by appropriate team members
Answering technical queries about own work and that of subordinates within their level of knowledge and competency
Appreciating and articulating the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
Experienced engineer in one following disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Outfit, Mechanical, Piping & HVAC)
Minimum HNC/HND in engineering, technology or science or equivalent experience
Awareness of LCM and Detail Design disciplines
Desirable:
Eng Tech status or working towards IEng status (UK)
Awareness of Foran
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Detail Design team:
Step into the heart of large-scale defence programmes as a Detail Designer, where you’ll apply 3D CAD mastery to develop engineering outputs and support system integration across CAD, PDM, and ERM toolsets. With deep expertise or broad proficiency in technical disciplines—from electrical systems to mechanical layouts—you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including PM, planning, and manufacturing, to drive delivery-focused outcomes.
