Salary: Up to £50,000 - Depending on Experience
The Role
The role of the Design and Estimating Engineer is to design and cost complex fire, life safety, electronic security systems, and network infrastructure. You will review client/tender specification documents and drawings, liaise with suppliers, use CAD software for detailed design, cost projects, and draft proposal documents. Collaboration with various departments, clients, consultants, suppliers, and colleagues is essential to meet deadlines and ensure accurate project design and costing.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Progress sales enquiries and tenders by working closely with Business Development Managers to understand customer requirements.
- Design life safety and security systems, as well as other integrated building systems based on customer needs, specifications, drawings, and standards.
- Prepare proposals, quotations, and tender documents timely and according to company standards.
- Assess risk factors influencing security and fire design and communicate findings to clients.
- Ensure all quotations and system designs comply with applicable technical and regulatory standards.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Meet handover and deadline requirements.
- Review changes in customer specifications and modify designs accordingly.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, within the scope and capability of the role.
Person Specification
Essential
- Knowledge of fire, security, or network infrastructure products and systems.
- Experience in design and estimating, including preparing cost sheets and proposals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and attention to detail skills.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and technical drawings.
Desirable
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Knowledge of relevant technologies, standards, and regulations.
- Experience in installation or commissioning within relevant sectors.
- Understanding of European regulatory standards.
- Proficiency in a European language is a plus.

Working Conditions
The role is based in an open-plan office with occasional support at other offices and customer sites for design meetings.
