Data Centre/ Cable Engineer \n 12 Month Contract | Portsmouth, Hampshire | £250 Day PAYE | Immediate Start\n\n12 Month Contract, possible extension to 18 months or to go permanent\nField-role, 20 locations across Hampshire and surrounding areas\nFull driving license required, vehicle provided \n\nWe are seeking a number of Data Centre Engineers to support a large installation project starting in February.\n\nThe role will be hands-on and delivery-focused, covering pre-installation surveys, design validation, physical infrastructure deployment, structured cabling, fibre and copper connectivity, testing, documentation, and health & safety compliance in-line with industry standards and best practice.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nPre-Installation Site Surveys\n\nThe DC Engineer will be responsible for conducting detailed site surveys to validate design assumptions and capture accurate build information, including:\n\nConfirm Locations\n\nIdentify and confirm room and rack locations for all equipment.\nValidate access routes and working areas.Measure Cable Routes\n\nMeasure copper and fibre cable lengths from each device to DCN, CIN, and BCH racks.\nMeasure power cable lengths from devices to PDUs.Check Device Interconnects\n\nIdentify and measure direct links between devices (copper, fibre, DAC, hydra).Record Survey Outputs\n\nProduce a list of required cable lengths by type.\nConfirm final rack positions and room mappings.\nProvide clear survey documentation to support design and installation. Installation & Build Activities\n\n The DC Engineer will perform all physical installation activities on-site, including:\n\nHardware Installation\n\nRack and stack all new network and infrastructure devices.Cabling Between Racks\n\nInstall structured cabling to BCH racks and UHD shelves/cassettes.Fibre Patching\n\nPatch fibre connections to CIN, Transmission platforms, ODFs, and BCH racks as required.Copper Connections\n\nConnect copper links to DCN racks and customer handoff/demarcation points.Patch Panel Installation\n\nInstall ODF panels and hydra cassettes within WWT buildings.Testing & Validation\n\nInspect and clean fibre.\nComplete power meter and light source testing.\nRecord and evidence pass results.Labelling\n\nLabel all cabling and hardware in accordance with WWT standards using the Brady BMP61 workflow.Build Documentation\n\nProduce as-built documentation including:\nPhotographs\nRack layouts\nTest results\nLabels & DiagramsHealth & Safety Compliance\n\nComplete site inductions, RAMS, permits, and adhere to PPE requirements.\nMaintain controlled workspaces and good housekeeping.Issue Management\n\nLog any non-conformances.\nRemediate issues, re-test, and provide evidence of closure.Design Support\n\nThe DC Engineer will support the design phase by validating survey data and producing accurate layout documentation, including:\n\nSurvey Review\n\nReview and validate all survey information prior to design commencement.Rack & Space Planning\n\nCalculate rack space requirements, equipment footprint, and clearance needs.Equipment Validation\n\nConfirm device dimensions, power draw, and suitability for available rack space.Layout Documentation\n\nProduce detailed rack layouts showing device positions.Connectivity Definition\n\nDocument cabling routes, fibre paths, and power connections.Design Drawings\n\nProduce final design drawings showing equipment placement and connectivity. \n\nQualifications\n\nProven cabling experience and/or working in data centre environments.\nStrong knowledge of structured cabling standards (copper & fibre).\nExperience with rack & stack, patching, ODFs, and hydra cassettes.\nComfortable producing as-built documentation and design drawings.\nStrong understanding of data centre H&S procedures and compliance.\nAbility to work accurately in live environments
