Your Role
To ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
To lead the construction of a new £60m pharmaceutical project, taking responsibility for
the end-to-end service delivery.
To act as the key, day to day project interface, ensuring that project objectives are met
and that the project is delivered on time, within cost targets and to the highest quality
standards.
To ensure the project runs smoothly, ensuring the project is in line with the project
schedule. Work closely the client team and their representatives on site including subcontractors,
suppliers etc.
The Construction Manager has overall responsibility for monitoring and organising the
construction (and demolition) activities and shall have a key role in prequalifying any
contractors employed as part of the construction delivery.
Key responsibilities
Support contract partners in the delivery of their works packages to enable efficient and timely completion of construction activities.
Recommend temporary measures to mitigate safety or quality concerns and follow up appropriately, including issuing communications, calling meetings, reviewing documents, and conducting assurance audits.
Monitor on-site works, record findings in the construction tracker, and escalate issues or concerns through detailed reports.
Proactively communicate and coordinate with site functions (Health & Safety, Quality, Surveillance, Commercial, Project Controls, Logistics) and manage construction coordinators to maintain timely and accurate reporting.
Attend pre-start briefings and support the delivery of key messages to the contractor organisation.
Organise and conduct meetings for planned deliveries and planned locations of work with contractors, ensuring outputs are recorded and issued to all relevant parties.
Undertake and document safety and assurance inspections to support project safety goals.
Implement a proactive EHS programme, encouraging workforce recognition, feedback, and engagement.
Ensure clear two-way communication with all partners so activities and issues are managed effectively.
Competently manage construction activities, demonstrating the required skills, knowledge, experience, and training.
Ensure designers, contractors, and other team members are EHS competent and appropriately prequalified.
Deliver projects safely, in compliance with local regulations, client requirements, and project specifications.
Agree responsibilities and accountabilities for project construction EHS with the client.
Implement and maintain a Safety Schedule for the project.
Encourage and support an EHS culture aligned with company values and project objectives.
Ensure all workers receive a project-specific construction induction.
Develop, implement, and regularly review/update the Construction Safety Plan/Management Plan.
Ensure the construction phase is planned, managed , monitored, and adequately resourced, with appropriate management of risks.
Provide all contractors with adequate information to carry out their work safely and without risk to health.
Develop and implement a Quality Management Plan and ensure contractors are aligned to it.
Develop and implement an Environmental Management Plan and ensure contractors are aligned to it.
Manage safe systems of work, site rules, security, and induction processes .
Ensure suitable welfare facilities are in place and properly managed.
Ensure contractors and workers have adequate training to perform tasks safely.
Ensure all local regulatory notices, licences, consents, and permissions are in place in adequate time.
Liaise with the Principal Designer regarding ongoing management of risks arising from the design.
Check the competency of all appointees (subcontractors, managers, supervisors, operatives, and workers) during the construction phase.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Degree in a construction-related subject
Full UK driving licence
SMSTS
Desirable
Chartered / qualified with APM, CIOB
Member of the CIOB
Qualified First Aider
Key Experience
Essential
Construction management experience in pharmaceutical construction on projects over £30m
Experience of working in GMP environments
Client-facing experience
Good working knowledge of all the main project management concepts, tools, and techniques
Good working knowledge of the project lifecycle from concept through to handover and aftercare
Stakeholder collaboration experience
Desirable
Experience in Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)
Worked as a tier 1 construction manager
Key forms of contracting including NEC3 / NEC4 / JCT experience
Key Skills and Knowledge
Essential
In-depth knowledge of all aspects of construction and relevant legislative requirements (e.g., Health & Safety)
Strong verbal and written communication skills; confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
