Behind it all is a team of ambitious VFXers who think like founders, never stop learning, and go the extra mile to help our clients succeed. About the Role We’re looking for a Compliance Monitoring Lead to design, deliver, and continuously improve VFX’s Compliance Monitoring Programme (CMP). This role will be responsible for providing independent assurance that regulatory obligations, internal policies, and control frameworks are operating effectively across the business. You’ll take ownership of monitoring planning, execution, reporting, and issue tracking, working closely with the MLRO, Compliance leadership, and key stakeholders across the organisation. This is a senior, hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys combining regulatory expertise with practical delivery in a fast‑paced, regulated environment. Key Responsibilities
Own and manage the end‑to‑end Compliance Monitoring Programme, ensuring it is risk‑based, proportionate, and aligned with regulatory expectations. Develop and maintain the annual compliance monitoring plan based on regulatory risk assessments, business changes, and regulatory priorities. Ensure monitoring activities cover key regulatory obligations relevant to FX, payments, AML/CTF, sanctions, conduct, and operational compliance.
Monitoring Reviews & Assurance
Design and execute thematic and control‑based monitoring reviews across the business. Assess the design and effectiveness of policies, procedures, and controls against regulatory requirements and internal standards. Identify control weaknesses, root causes, and areas for improvement, ensuring findings are evidence‑based and well‑documented.
Issue Management & Follow‑Up
Track findings, actions, and remediation plans through to completion. Challenge and support first‑line teams to ensure timely and effective remediation. Escalate overdue or high‑risk issues to senior management where appropriate.
Reporting & Governance
Produce clear, concise monitoring reports with meaningful ratings, recommendations, and management actions. Prepare regular MI and summary reporting for Compliance leadership, the MLRO, and relevant governance forums. Support regulatory interactions, audits, and internal assurance activities where required.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong working relationships with Compliance, Risk, Operations, Product, Payments, and Technology teams. Act as a trusted advisor on compliance control expectations and good practice. Provide guidance on regulatory change impacts from a monitoring and assurance perspective.
Programme Development & Continuous Improvement
Continuously enhance the CMP methodology, templates, and tooling to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Stay up to date with regulatory developments (e.g. FCA Handbook, MLRs, JMLSG, PSD2, sanctions regimes) and incorporate changes into monitoring activity. Contribute to strengthening the overall compliance control framework as the business scales.
Candidate Profile
Strong regulatory and compliance monitoring experience within FX, payments, fintech, banking, or another regulated financial services environment. Proven experience designing and delivering compliance monitoring or assurance programmes. Solid understanding of UK regulatory frameworks (e.g. FCA rules, MLRs 2017, JMLSG, sanctions regimes). Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess control effectiveness and identify root causes. Strong written communication skills, with experience producing clear monitoring reports for senior stakeholders. Confident engaging with stakeholders across first and second line functions. Organised, pragmatic, and comfortable working independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Background
6–10+ years’ experience in Compliance, Compliance Monitoring, Risk Assurance, or Internal Audit within financial services. Experience in payments, FX, e‑money, or fintech environments. Familiarity with risk‑based monitoring methodologies and regulatory assurance best practice.
