Where will you be working?

We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards.  We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.

This role will be within our developer services team. Our developer services team connects water and wastewater services, installs lateral drains, and enables new developments access to vital water and wastewater services.  

What will you be doing? 

As our new Commercial Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our contract delivery strategy. Your role is essential in ensuring that our commercial practices not only meet contractual obligations but also drive internal performance.

You’ll begin by working closely with the operational team to embed robust processes that align with the Commercial Director’s vision. A key part of your success will be building strong, transparent relationships with our clients, ensuring that commercial decisions are made collaboratively and with integrity.

You’ll guide the team on cost and value reporting, help manage WIP effectively, and ensure our forecasts are accurate and actionable. Your reports will inform strategic decisions, so clarity and insight are key.

You’ll also play a vital role in procurement, governance, and risk management, ensuring that every commercial decision supports our long-term goals. Whether it’s resolving disputes, supporting bids, or managing contract changes, your expertise will be crucial.

What you’ll bring 

Key Responsibilities

Project & Commercial Management

  • Lead commercial delivery across projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and risk management.
  • Manage cash flow, valuations, final accounts, and recovery of outstanding monies.
  • Allocate and oversee commercial resources, ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to contractual procedures.

Internal Reporting

  • Prepare monthly cost/value reports, margin analysis, and accurate forecasts.
  • Maintain change control, reserves, and disallowed cost registers at project level.

Client Requirements

  • Ensure timely submissions of forecasts, EES data, and final accounts.
  • Align forecasting with project reports and programmes.

Subcontract Management

  • Manage procurement strategy and subcontractor performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with governance, templates, and delegated authorities.
  • Oversee subcontractor approvals, orders, and payments.

Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the client and internal teams.
  • Drive customer satisfaction and enhance client perception.

Quality

  • Implement and comply with quality, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Ensure adherence to company processes and standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and utilities sector service delivery.
  • Ability to plan ahead, influence change, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Client-focused approach with experience building senior-level relationships.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
