You'd need to produce technical reports, diagnose defects and prepare schedules of work, as well as managing tenders, contracts and project delivery. One of the main skills needed is balancing empathy with efficiency when supporting clients through challenging situations - they may have just lost their livlihoods for a while.

You need to be MRICS chartered or working towards chartership, with a building-related degree. You also need strong knowledge of construction methods and legislation, experience in contract administration and project planning, as well as being calm under pressure, a confident communicator, and having a proactive mindset.
