About the Firm

We are a friendly and well-established accountancy practice supporting a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, sole traders and individuals. Our focus is on building long-term client relationships, providing practical advice, and maintaining a supportive, flexible working environment.

Due to continued growth, we are now looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant with at least a couple of years’ experience in practice to join our team.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on role within a small practice, offering exposure to a broad range of accounting and compliance work. You will work closely with senior team members while managing your own client responsibilities.

Typical duties will include:

Preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies

Assisting with year-end accounts and supporting senior accountants

Preparation and submission of VAT returns

Basic payroll processing and related submissions

Preparation and filing of annual Confirmation Statements

Bookkeeping and reconciliations

Assisting with personal tax returns where appropriate

Liaising directly with clients, responding to queries in a professional and confident manner

Supporting administrative processes and helping maintain smooth internal workflows

About You

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working in a practice environment and enjoys dealing with clients.

You will ideally have:

At least 2 years’ experience in an accountancy practice

AAT qualified or studying, or ACA/ACCA studying, or qualified by experience

A good understanding of accounts preparation and VAT

Some exposure to payroll (training can be provided if needed)

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

A friendly, professional manner and confidence dealing with clients
