Job Summary
Reporting to the Innovation Director, the Application Development & Technical Service (AD/TS) Manager leads technical activities in the Adhesives and Sealants business segment, providing innovation support, project management, customer interaction and lab leadership. The role collaborates closely with the Market Segment Manager and Sales team to drive growth.
Responsibilities
Lead short to long term innovation programs related to Capa materials synthesis and product development.
Develop processes and testing methods for adhesives and sealants using new Capa polyols.
Direct the Adhesives and Sealants applications laboratory and oversee safety, environmental and regulatory compliance.
Manage and coach lab personnel, including personnel appraisal and development.
Identify improvement opportunities in product, process, analytical techniques and market possibilities.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with company IT and legal policies.
Support cross‑functional projects, including technical marketing presentations, webinars and external partnerships.
Assist in procurement of laboratory chemicals and equipment recommendations to line manager.
Communicate effectively with regional sales teams and customers.
Work Assignments
Safety – Work and behave in a safe manner, improve laboratory safety standards, comply with REACH, COSHH and isocyanate handling protocols.
Project & Tasks Management – Understand customer and market needs, manage associated projects to realize opportunities, provide technical content at customer meetings.
Technical Support – Offer technical qualification of products, produce marketing materials, support technical marketing initiatives.
Lab Work – Build in‑house lab capabilities, generate experimental data for specific applications, partner with external labs or universities.
People Management – Guide lab personnel, conduct staff appraisals.
Administration – Ensure work documentation is recorded accurately, maintain records, comply with confidentiality and IT policies.
Qualifications & Experience
BSc, MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
7–10 years industrial laboratory experience with a track record of increasing responsibility including people management.
Demonstrated expertise in formulating, testing and manufacturing polyurethane adhesives.
Experience with hot‑melt and reactive hot‑melt formulations is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry, polymer physical testing and thermal analysis methods.
Practical understanding of laboratory safety principles and risk analysis (REACH, COSHH).
Evidence of training and proficiency in project management skills.
