National: £68,967 – £88,900 (including a potential allowance of up to £19,993)

The Role – Head of Analytics Engineering
Help transform the justice system through data
We’re recruiting for a Head of Analytics Engineering at the Ministry of Justice to join our Data & Analytics Engineering Hub.
We seek a strategic, hands-on leader to scale Analytics Engineering and turn raw data into improvements across prisons, courts, probation, and more. You will collaborate with the Head of Data Engineering to deliver analytical datasets and self-service tools on our platform.
Our team has grown from a pilot to over 40 members, pioneering the profession across government. We now need a permanent Head of Analytics Engineering to continue scaling sustainably.
You will lead talented Analytics Engineers, work with Data Engineers, Analysts, and Data Scientists, and shape how analytical datasets are built, governed, and used at MoJ. Details of team work can be found in our handbook.
This role aligns with the Head of Analytics Engineering role from the Government Digital and Data Framework.
What you’ll do
- Lead the profession and team: set vision, manage and develop Lead Analytics Engineers, promote diversity and high performance, support career growth.
- Set technical direction: design clean, well-modelled datasets, embed best practices in data modelling, quality, testing, governance, and stay updated with industry trends.
- Deliver across the justice system: oversee analytics engineering work in prisons, courts, probation, support cross-cutting data products, collaborate with other teams to meet user needs.
- Build a Centre of Excellence: establish a community of practice, lead training and peer learning, promote the profession externally, build industry relationships.
- Business partnering and stakeholder engagement: act as a strategic partner to senior leaders, foster a collaborative environment where analytics engineering drives decision-making and service improvement.
